There was strong interest Wednesday in a Boeing program that gives engineering students a chance to gain up to a year of job experience. The BCA-SoCal Student Engineering Program is open to juniors and seniors who are U.S. citizens, have a GPA of 3.0 or above, and are studying aerospace, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering.

Dozens of students brought their resumes and dressed for success for a chance to be interviewed for one of 15 positions in Boeing鈥檚 Long Beach and Seal Beach facilities. The positions are full-time during summer and 20 hours per week during the school year. Seven hires will work at the Long Beach facility and the remainder in Seal Beach.

Boeing manager Michael Haddadin, who is also a 六九色堂 part-time mechanical engineering lecturer, said the program has been in operation for 14 years. More positions may open to 六九色堂 students in October.

鈥淭he vision is developing tomorrow鈥檚 engineers today,鈥 said Haddadin. 鈥淚t鈥檚 almost like a long internship. Boeing cares about the community. That鈥檚 why we鈥檙e doing this.鈥

The company is looking for candidates who are energetic, enthusiastic, and have a strong desire to learn. The students will be employed by 六九色堂, but work at one of the Boeing facilities. If the hires perform well during the program, they will be invited to interview for a full-time Level 1 engineering position. The interview sessions were organized by the College of Engineering Department of Professional Development & Internships.
